Kenzie
newton
Since stepping foot off of the court as a player back in 2004, Coach Kenzie Newton has had the expectation of women’s basketball to continue to grow in the state of Utah. She has been a part of the Flash Basketball Academy the last 6 years and served as the Elite Director in the state of Utah for the past 4. While being a part of Flash Academy, she has helped over 40 athletes pursue their goal of playing at the collegiate level. Newton has a great understanding of the recruiting process and the preparation and hard work that it takes to give these athletes the opportunity to play at the next level.

She played at the collegiate level- Snow College from 2000-2002, helping the team to a conference championship in 2000-2001 with a record of 30-3. She finished her basketball career at Southern Utah University from 2002-2004. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Southern Utah in 2005, Newton jumped right into coaching high school basketball.

2005-2009, Newton was the head girls basketball coach at Grantsville High School and lead the Cowboys to two region championships and two appearances to the final 8 at the state tournament. She was also named Region coach of the year in 2007-2008.

2010-2019, Newton was the head girls basketball coach at Stansbury High School and lead the Stallions to two region championships and four appearances to the final 8 at the state tournament. While building the program at Stansbury, she built a feeder program that gave 500 youth in the community the opportunity to play basketball.

2019-Present, Newton is the head girls basketball coach at the brand new high school in Herriman, Utah- Mountain Ridge. She enjoys building something from scratch and loves a good challenge. Her experiences have prepared her to start the Utah Summitt Basketball Club and continue to be a strong advocate for women’s basketball.

Newton and her husband Jeff have 2 children, Kya(12) and Jacoby(8). She recently finished her master's degree at Southern Utah University in The Science of Human Performance and Sports Conditioning. In her free time she enjoys fly fishing and being her children’s #1 fan.
Coach Megan Vera began the pursuit of her lifelong dream of becoming a high school basketball coach right after graduating high school in 2007 by attending SUU and then the University of Utah where she received her bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion and Education with an emphasis is Coaching. She threw herself all in to helping girls’ basketball grow in the State of Utah in 2010 when she got her first assistant job at Tooele High School. She has also been part of the Utah Flash Basketball Academy for the last 3 years.

In the fall of 2013, she was awarded the job as the Head Coach of her alma mater, Grantsville High School. When Coach Vera took over the program, the girl’s team had lost 56 games in a row. She has since built one of the most competitive girls basketball programs in the state of Utah. She did this by building up a feeder program that fields 4 youth teams (5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades) every year, focusing on skill development, team camaraderie and challenging the girls individually to becoming the best players and even better people.

2010 to 2013 - Assistant Coach Tooele High School.

Under Coach Vera the Cowboys have been Region Champions 4 times; in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 with Coach Vera being named Region Coach of the Year 3 of those seasons. Over the last 4 seasons the Varsity team has averaged 20 wins per season and played in the State semi-finals 4 years in a row and were the State Runner up in 2019 when they played for the State Championship.
Coach Vera and her husband, Andrew, have 3 young children. Whenever she gets time away from basketball she loves being with and supporting her kids, the mountains, the beach and pretty much anything you can do outside.
